Social Lights Mission Statement
We aim to cultivate meaningful friendships and create places for people to come together face to face.
Our Core Beliefs
1. We believe face to face social interactions are the most beneficial for format for deepening interpersonal relationships.
2. We believe it’s valuable for our society to have “third spaces” for people to come together in informal social settings. (A third space is a location for socializing and community building outside of one’s home, the “first place”, and workplace the “second place” )
3. We believe it’s the responsibility of each individual to be friendly and hospitable and take to initiative in creating a better, more connected, world for everyone to live in.
4. We believe individuals ought to create communities with explicit goals and values. Social Lights is an unapologetically Christ-centered community with the goal of bringing glory to God.
About Us
Here’s just a little about us.
Social Lights is first and foremost meant to bring people together. Our goal is to create in person spaces for people to meet with each other. We believe there are significant and growing challenges to interpersonal connection today. We believe that disconnection, sometimes exacerbated to hostility, is present between many individuals and demographics in our American culture today. We desire to cultivate friendships to bridge these disconnects.
We seek to serve all ages, but have a primary focus on people ages 18-30, for which reason, many of our events and many of the groups we advertise are exclusively for that age range.
We aim to help cultivate and form meaningful friendships by creating and promoting opportunities for people to come together in physical spaces. We believe that interacting face to face serves to deepen our interpersonal connections with each other. We believe that interpersonal connections sharpen our characters, and provide emotional, intellectual, and mental structures of support, as well as access to information about significant physical resources.
People of all beliefs are welcome and as Christians we seek to follow Jesus’ command to treat others as ourselves. However, we do not believe friendships and community can be built in a vacuum. While we want the space we create and share to be open to all people, we do not shy away from the fact that we are at core a community aiming to build ourselves around objective bible based morals, traditional family values, and healthy relationships of reasonable accountability and respect. Of course, if you are someone who doesn’t agree with some of these values we will still welcome you so long as you’re willing to be respectful. We aim to share our love and community with any willing to receive it.
Our commitment to Jesus means we hold God’s word in high esteem. We will not endorse or create spaces that tolerate or encourage blatant degeneracy or irresponsibility.
